Dell to Offer Ubuntu 7.04

  

To no big surprise, Dell appears to have chosen Ubuntu for their GNU/Linux distribution of choice to pre-install on some of their desktops and laptops:

"As part of an overall effort to update our Linux program, today we are announcing a partnership with Canonical to offer Ubuntu on select consumer desktop and notebook products." -- Read more

Dell was also kind enough to offer an an ogg video of related Shuttleworth interview.

It's is very good news that

It's is very good news that a large retailer of computers is supporting GNU/Linux, it will hopefully lead to a healthier market, more GNU/Linux use and a greater understanding of freedom on computers.

Ubuntu is a good choice in that it works pretty well 'out of the box', though I would have liked Fedora to be offered too. Though having Ubuntu working on the computers should mean that the hardware will also be suitable for Fedora and other distributions.
