Translating applications
By Mario Splivalo
One of the main goals of the Croatian Ubuntu user group, and by that the ubuntu-hr team, is translating of Ubuntu to the croatian language. This is a very rich theme which we could dedicate a whole conference to. Mario will present you with a brief insight into problems that come up with translation and tools that are used in this job.
Eye Candy
By Filip Skoblar
The topic of the Filips lecture will be "eye candy", or how it is also popularly called - bling. In the introductory part of this lecture you will be able to hear which hardware is needed, which difficulties are there with drivers and how to install beryl in the first place. During the lecture, Filip will describe main differences between beryl and compiz, and demonstrate the last stable version of beryl. If time allows, by the end of the lecture the development version of beryl will be demonstrated as well.
Ubuntu in the Office
By Senko Rašić, Rei
Do you use (GNU/)Linux in the office already? Big progress has been made lately in improving GNU/Linux for exactly this kind of use, and one of the leading distributions in this is Ubuntu. Senko will talk about advantages of deploying GNU/Linux in offices, problems that may arise with it and why could Ubuntu be an ideal choice for an office desktop.
Ubuntu development
By Daniel Holbach, Canonical, Ubuntu developer
If you are interested to know how is Ubuntu developed, we encourage you to visit this lecture. Daniel Holbach will provide you with some insights into bzr, the connection between bzr and Launchpad, apport system which showed up in 6.10 and other tools which are used every day in the development of Ubuntu.
Of course, we wont miss the topic of the MOTU community, group of Ubuntu developers which take care of the "universe" component of the distribution. By the end of the lecture, Daniel will also demonstrate what he is lately keeping busy with; GNOME and Telepathy. Daniel is coming to us from Berlin. Don't miss!
On the future of Canonical business
By Christopher Kenyon, Canonical, business development manager
The company to blame for Ubuntu is, of course, Canonical. Chris Kenyon is responsible for the business development of the company. He will come directly from London to present the Canonical's plans for the future and provide insight into business solutions which Canonical can offer. It is definitely worth listening if you are responsible for the IT sector in one of our bigger companies.
Ubuntu on servers
By Ante Karamatić, Init
Big success of Ubuntu on the desktop market is bringing an increasing interest for Ubuntu as a server platform. Which advantages or disadvantages does Ubuntu have as a server platform and how does Ubuntu compare to the rest of GNU/Linux distributions in this SMB market segment, find out in lectures held by Ante. Also, get introduced to the novelties coming with the version 7.04, and which are applied to the server segment.
Note: some of these lectures are apparently targeted to the Croatian public and the official language of the conference is Croatian. You may still consider attending for the lectures held in English by Daniel Holbach and Christopher Kenyon or if you understand Croatian.
