Map of Freedom in the World (2007 Edition)

Someone accidentally posted this link in an IRC channel and since I was curious I checked it out. It's a pretty nice and functional map of freedom in the world, mapping countries in three categories: not free, partly free and free.

From a quick survey of the map it looks like the half of the world, and counting such highly populated places like China, even more than half live without essential freedoms, which is quite sad.

Yet, if we push the boundaries in terms of defining true freedom for an individual I think even more countries would be in the "partly free" category, but that's another discussion.

Quite an impressive documentary featuring the words of Arundhati Roy "on such things as the war on terror, corporate globalization, justice and the growing civil unrest".

Some of the things that ring loudest for me is the way she speaks on anti-nationalism and anti-americanism and then reveals american involvement in so much more than I actually knew of or thought, but in a way that doesn't make it seem like a conspiracy theory, but merely history.

Some of the things she says is that to be anti nationalist does not necessarily mean being against a nation. In the same vein anti-americanism is not to be against many of the good things which define american culture and american ideals. From what I gather, to be anti nationalist is to be against blind following of a nation's regime and as well to be an anti-americanist is to be against the american regime being imposed not only to USA, but to the world as well.
