A strategy of anti-DRM hype?
Reading the comments to this story on slashdot, specifically this comment I had a thought.
The comment is simply...
We are going DRM-less in droves. EMI and friends can go with us or not.
And my thought is this. What if a huge amount of people loudly started talking about not only how DRM is wrong, but how much it is an obvious failure that will never work that never worked and will never work and that we will never adopt no matter what they try. Maybe the power of this anti-DRM hype alone finally makes the big four realize it is a futile effort?
Not to mention that as a side effect, a lot of people who may not be hearing much about DRM these day and may be taking it for granted as normal, could be taken by this "DRM failed" trend.
Going further, this could be a campaign called "DRM Failed" written on its website in a stamp-like fashion, it's been marked a failure. Such a campaign site could feature various links to news and stories which indicate the following:
1. People are not adopting DRM
2. Industry is not making more money on DRM
3. DRM fails ethically (which would mostly point to content from sites like DefectiveByDesign for example).
