blog software
Are there any open source blogging programs that can interface with the libervis blogging system? I've seen a lot of general linux blogging programs that appear to be compable with a number of different types of blogging systems, but I'm not sure which one libervis uses.... can anybody help me out?

If I recall correctly it is a Xoops plugin or something like that, but I am probably wrong. :-D Daniel?

If the area around my avatar is dark gray chances are you are using MS Internet Explorer, one of the few browsers that do not have full PNG-24 support. Considered trying [url=http://bro

Yes, it's a xoops module actually (weBlog), no longer in development to say the truth, but currently the best choice we got.
I am not sure i know about any software that can interface with it though.. i should investigate that.. I believe you want to post blog entries via e-mail or that software?
Thanks
Daniel

Yeah. Having to open a browser and navigate to my blog is a pain. I bookmarked the "post" page yesterday, but its still kind of a pain to deal with. I would like to be able to use a program to make my posts.
If you can set up a simple web service on a port and make it so that I can send username, password, and blog entry to it in a certain format, and have the entry be posted, i'll write a program to interface with it.
I can probably even write the web service if you need me to. I'd just need to know a lot about how xoops stores its data.

Hm.. i am not sure about it.. I am not a programmer and so i basically rely on developers of the systems i use. I know how to use them and i know some mysql basics, but not much more..
But, there are still things we can do.. This weblog module we use now has caused pretty much troubles already, or better yet, lackings, inability to upload images, no customization and now lack of interface.. maybe it's best to replace it.. As XOOPS integrated option isnt available yet, we might give some other a try, if it will be much better maybe we can sacrifice integration for now for all those feats.
Or maybe we can assemble a team of interested php developers to integrate it to XOOPS.. it may be a libervis community project.. Everyone who wants to help will be able to help in some way..
One great blogging system i am considering is livejournal..
What do you think?
Thank you
Daniel

In the irc chat channel Daniel and I discussed intergrating the live journal feature, to be used instead of the current blogging module. If we get it working, you can then use a variety of apps to add to your blog without using a browser. The are tools available for both Gnome and KDE, including ones that hide in your system tray.
If you are using a non Linux system - there are also apps available for Mac, Windows, and a few others [Solaris, iirc]. I recommmend that "others" link because it more or less the index.
Cheers,
Pascal

Excellent. If there is anything I can do to help, I offer my services. It would definitely be nice to get a better blogging system. While you are working on it, I would like to see better URLs for individual blogs. I want to be able to memorize the URL of my blog so I can give it to friends.
www.libervis.com/modules/weblog/index.php?user_id=68
Is much harder to remember than:
www.libervis.com/blogs/segphault
Thanks!

When you signed up for a blog here you got a sub domain of your choice [name] so for example, mine is www.platypus.libervis.com - for my blog. You should have this too.

Well, yeah - here comes the problem - I am 15, and can't program the tiniest bit. Daniel is probably quite close to where I stand - and unless I am mistaken there isn't anyone abroad Libervis with a good understanding of php to program this... So, we're stuck in the moment. The idea is good - there is support for it - but that is where it ends in the moment. Suggestions welcome...

I appreciate that. Well, we should find a couple more programmers that could dedicate some time to the project and start working on it.
But first we need to define the project and it's goals. I will start trying out some good blogging systems (besides livejournal) and then post a thread about them so we can choose one together.
You can also propose one. The advantage would, besides features, be the easiness of integration with other systems, like XOOPS here.

No worries, we have just got the idea and we should first research the blogging systems and then come up with the project and goals for it. I am optimistic about finding programmers willing to spend some time on it... We can start using the chosen system even before the integration is made with two accounts, and then when we'll have integration, just switch to it.
Thanks
