Free Software Website

Hi All
I am going to be setting up a website that will list only free software, and i am looking for items that people would like to see listed on there. For programs that are under 100kb hosting may be available, and larger files may be hosted later.
The Site will be stupidfreejunk.info. No this is not because i think free software is stupid it is because it is a attention grabber, and a domain name i have available for this purpose.
So let me know what software you want to see listed and it shall be. If you have created a program also remember hosting for under 100k may be available.

What is the difference with freshmeat.net?
Yeah.. and is it only for Free (as in freedom) software (open source) or you will include freeware, shareware etc. which IS NOT free as you don't have all of four freedoms (run, copy, modify, share).
If it's only Free (as in freedom) software, i fully support it.
I might get back with some software listings.
Thanks
Daniel
Oh.. i moved this topic from "other software" forum to FS/OSS websites forum as it's more appropriate place for it.
As soon as the site is up feel free to post it here so that everyone can review it and possibly contribute some info on software to list on your site. This is the only forum on libervis.com where webmasters of FOSS related sites can promote, that is, showcase their sites for reviews and suggestions. Users are also free to recommend sites.
Thank you
Daniel
The site would be for Free Software. Not just Opensource.
But yes only for Freeware, Only software you can use all features without paying any license fees. So it would not include Shareware. I believe that most freeware is in most occasions going to be open source but not all of it is so some will not include all four freedoms.
But the site will offer a place that you can visit and find software to use without paying any license fees.
Hmm...
Freeware is not "Free software" nor "open source software" because it has a closed source. There can be no freeware that is open source because freeware is closed source, but only free to use. It is still proprietary..
I must say i am in strong opposition to any kind of proprietary software including freeware, that is, to any kind of software that doesn't comes with all four freedoms.
That said, i support the fact that you'll have free (as in freedom) software on your site and maybe suggest some listings.. but for else..
I understand what the site would be, but i must say it's not to be considered a strong Free/open source software supporter site if it includes freeware.
Well, that's where i stand :-)
Thank you
Daniel
In other words, a directory of opensourced programs?
Hmmm, why not just do it at libervis? stupidfreejunk.info is actually a pretty silly domain. You might even want to search for free info registrations (I know it is somewhere out of the billion websiters on the net
Besides, I am not sure if you can find an opensourced script to power it.
No, according to what orion_joel says it would not be only free/open source software, but closed source freeware also.
And yes.. we could do something like that on libervis.com in the future, listing the best free/open source apps for the community to be able to download without leaving this site
There will definitely be some downloads on libervis.com, just not yet. But i doubt it could be a direct competition to what orion_joel is doing as whatever we provide at libervis would be only and strictly free/open source software (gpl, bsd and alike licenced).
Thanks
Daniel
We should put links to open source software we like in the wiki...
Am I being stupid or is the wiki broken?
http://www.libervis.com/modules/wiwimod/index.php?page=InternetSoftware
Hm.. it's like the xoopscode has been disabled but there is no option to turn it on in the wiki admin.. and there's no much better wiki for xoops unfortunately.
So, i put the HTMLArea WYSIWYG editor back instead so you can create links with it. I made those links you tried to make. :-)
One thing with this WYSIWYG editor is that when you create a link to create new page it for some reason gives back the link creating dialog until you click cancel. Clicking cancel dismisses the window, but the link stays.
I'll look into it. There's so much to do, but can't do it all at once.. I gotta hack that little wiki module so it works better.
And adding some software links is a good idea PK :-)
Thanks
Daniel
