Fuel Cells in Laptops

Fuel Cells in Laptops

Fuel cells in laptops.

It seems that we might be expecting laptops fuled by fuel cells in a year or so - this'll mean we can have our laptops on for a day without needing a recharge :-)

Re: Fuel Cells in Laptops

That's cool. Those fuel cells have kind of a buzz as one of the energy sources of the future.

I somehow expected it could keep a laptop longer than that though, but I guess I am not familiar with how long a laptop can stay up normally since I never had one.

Ah well, a whole day seems great..

9 hours is quite long

Re: Fuel Cells in Laptops

Since fuel cells are powered by methanol(?) you top them up from cartriges when the cell runs out of fuel.
I'm no expert on this but couldn't you keep toping up the fuel so that it didn't run out - so you could work without mains power for days on end?

You could have a small battery which is charged by the fuel cell to power the laptop while you top up the cell?

Re: Fuel Cells in Laptops

It depends on the cardridge design. Does it need some pressure or is it a simple fuel tank?

I was in a lecture given by a Toshiba R&D guy a few months back, and from that I got the impression that they were just small bottles of the fuel, and not under pressure. But I may be wrong.
