greasemonkey script for mozdex

greasemonkey script for mozdex

I wrote a greasemonkey script that customizes mozdex a bit. It has not been thoroughly tested yet because mozdex is down about half the time today.

Features:
- cosmetic improvements
- "hide" button that removes a search result from the list
- all links open in new windows (or tabs if you configured firefox to do that)
- links to try the same search on other search engines (the same as in customize google) (maybe I should remove the evil ones from the list?)

I hope you'll enjoy using it. Your comments will be used in the next version.

Re: greasemonkey script for mozdex

Hey! It looks like stuff is changing at mozdex, which breaks parts my script. Aw dammit. I'll fix it later.

EDIT: oh, that was easy to fix. Version 0.2 should be on the server in a couple of minutes...

Re: greasemonkey script for mozdex

That looks great! I like that hide button and I imagine all those links to other search engines will be greatly useful, even if you remove google, msn, yahoo and the likes...

One humble suggestion though, regarding the looks.. maybe you could set some padding of content within those boxes, so that text doesn't touch the box border like now. It ought to be an easy CSS trick. :-)

Aside from that, I'd say everything's great. Nice work!

Maybe Byron will be interested in implementing this by default to their search, or at least as an option that can be enabled by choice, or at least link (and host) your script from their support page (like that mozdex search add-on).

I can host it as well, if you'd like?

Cheers

version 0.3: added padding in results (suggested by libervisco)
always check the version before downloading the script.

As for the hosting... We'll think about that later.

Sure. :-)

Re: greasemonkey script for mozdex

version 0.4:
- other search engines now search whatever is in the search input field instead of the original search (if you changed the input field)
- added links to wayback machine
- removed links to evil search engines (google, yahoo, msn)
- fixed issues with "more from" link

always check the version before downloading the script.

Re: greasemonkey script for mozdex

Awesome! Adding wayback machine link is such a great idea. It's always interesting to see how sites developed over time. :-)

You're moving pretty quickly towards a 1.0 release. ;-)
