libervis & freedom & cooperation
It's true, obviously, that we've been cooperating less in creating new content lately. We have a wiki which can be used for this, but it is currently being underused. Maybe it just isn't motivating enough as it is.
It would be good to re-initiate the cooperative aspect of Libervis though. The idea of cooperate.libervis.com sounds interesting. Would it be a separate site/installation in your idea (much like blogs.libervis.com)? Maybe we could use a project management tool rather than a wiki better for it.
Also, I feel I'd like to have my own community-serving site. Maybe I should create a site about cooperation? Maybe I could create it in libervis network space, and in the future be the first libervis network employee, responsible for keeping that one site and its projects running?
This seems to be one of the good ways forward for the network to grow. While I may develop some additional mini projects (nothing as big as Libervis and Nuxified) which would be experiments at first, and grow the network this way, I would welcome such new projects as part of the network, but started by someone other than me who is highly involved with it. You are one of the best candidates.
And of course you'd draw some (monetary) benefit of this contribution as well, especially if successful.
So overall I think it's a good idea to discuss.
I don't mean the cooperative aspect of libervis, but the talk about cooperation. So talking about any topic from how to do cooperative writing, to cooperation-assisting software, to knowledge sharing through technology (OLPC!). Actual cooperative writing could be done anywhere in the libervis network, not limited to the proposed new site.
I fooled around a bit in inkscape, and attached a logo idea to the original post.
I like the logo.
We can talk about these things on Libervis too, but since the focus of the site is more broad I suppose we never get more than a few of us actually involved in forum discussions so maybe a separate subproject would be more succesful.
Libervis forums would remain for Libervis and network specific discussions internally and externally as well as any optional philosophical things. But I think about minimizing forums anyway to better fit the purpose for which they are being used.
So yeah, I still like the idea.
I'm reviving this thread instead of starting new one, to say that I think the direction we've established in 2008 for Libervis.com actually gives way of returning to the cooperation aspect of the site.
Becoming a de facto central nexus of Libervis Network and freely thinking minds on a wide variety of topics including specific project developments does very much imply that cooperation will not only be discussed, but also to a point done right here on this site.
Here is an example. As we and new members continue discussing various topics we're bound to come up with some project ideas. We will then begin developing those ideas right here. Some of them may actually turn into real projects which could very well be cooperative, partially or fully. Even after the project is launched the project can be discussed on Libervis.com, including it continued development and all cooperative activities that go with it.
In fact you will likely see more discussions about even existing projects like Nuxified.org, MobiLiberty (which we already talked a bit about), DoublePlusHuman.com and perhaps even a nice new project Taco is working on. Sometimes it may be worth discussing improvements of a particular site on that site itself (like Nuxified.org), but sometimes it may be worth looking for potential cooperators or just novel ideas outside of the community in question, like Libervis.com.
And this does excite me. More cooperation, discussions of the juicy stuff that actually means doing more than just talking.. it makes things even more fun.
Oh and btw, I like that cooperation banner, especially the slogan and squares.
Cheers

I get the impression the main topic of libervis has shifted from "freedom to cooperate" to "freedom", especially now we have the new "the digital freedom movement" title. There's nothing wrong with that, except that I miss the "cooperation" part, which I happen to find more interesting. Maybe the shift happened because I didn't have time to write any long stories in the last few months
.
Maybe we should create a new libervis network node? cooperate.libervis.com or something. (needs a better title!) Once I get started writing the new version of project Durian, and finish that article about communities, there would be a reasonable amount of content for it. Topics like OLPC also could go there. And the interview of Ryan North I want to do sometime... etc
Also, I feel I'd like to have my own community-serving site. Maybe I should create a site about cooperation? Maybe I could create it in libervis network space, and in the future be the first libervis network employee, responsible for keeping that one site and its projects running?
Many possibilities, many dreams...
What do you think?
If you run a mile, does that make you own the road?
