New Libervis slogan

New Libervis slogan

Let's stop using "digital". Quantum computing may not be that far off. Let's use "technological" instead.

"Digital" seems to be the

"Digital" seems to be the buzzword in this day and age, associated with internet and all computer generated/operated/stored content.

But "technological" could be considered though. It doesn't seem too uncommon. So the slogan would then be "The Technological Freedom Movement" or "The Technology Freedom Movement" or "The Technology Rights Movement". Whichever sounds better..

I would go for "Information

I would go for "Information Freedom Movement", then. "Technological" makes me think of mechanical engineering, which implies a different kind of "free movement", that of a robotic arm...

Laughing out loud

Hmm now I have a decision to

Hmm now I have a decision to make. Smiling I suppose that if a_thing, dylunio or anyone else agrees we can go for "information freedom movement" then, although I am not then sure how buzzing and understandable this would be for the people getting introduced to the whole thing..

Hmm, I'm still rather in

Hmm, I'm still rather in favore of 'Digital' since it's what we have now, it is the current realm in which we are fighting a battle for Freedom. If this will not do we could use 'Information' - but this can cover things such as TV, magazines and books which are not really in the remit of LN.

dylunio

Maybe.. hmm.. we could then

Maybe.. hmm.. we could then just use "digital" now and if and when we see the popularity of the "quantum" term rising with the development of quantum information technology we can just start adapting. It's not like we have to hold this slogan forever.

To be honest, the "digital

To be honest, the "digital rights movement" has the best ring to me and looks like something that could get stuck in people's minds when reading the header. It looks like something they could very easily associate with the name Libervis. I'm looking at it from the "marketing" perspective.

It also has the value of a pun towards the acronym of "DRM" which in a way expresses the revolt against "management" of digital rights by exchanging it with the "movement".

It's like saying.. "management my ass, watch out for the real thing, the digital rights movement". Sticking out tongue

So I guess "freedom" may be more direct on the issue, but "rights" is often synonymous to "freedoms".

"Information" may be more broad than "digital" because it includes all devised information technology in the future, but the dominant information technology today is digital and that term is hence synonymous with "information technology" today. Tomorrow, like in 2008 and on.. we can change and adapt. That's not an uncommon thing on Libervis.com anyway. Eye

What do you think, after all?

Thanks

"buzz" and "understandable"

"buzz" and "understandable" usually don't combine. That's what makes buzzwords buzzwords: they sound good but they don't really mean anything.

I don't know if having the same acronym and even two words in common with DRM is a good idea. It may be funny to the well informed, but to everyone else it's just confusing.

I like "digital freedom movement", with "information freedom movement" as a good second.

Hmm, you're probably right.

Hmm, you're probably right. I think I'll side with using the term "freedom" then, just to differentiate from the DRM acronym after all.

Now, what will people understand better on sight of the slogan:

  • "Digital Freedom Movement" or
  • "Information Freedom Movement" ?

/me votes for 'Digital

/me votes for 'Digital Freedom Movement'

DFM shows we're mostly

DFM shows we're mostly concerned about computing related freedom issues. IFM is more broad, and therefore more confusing.
