New Vista Packaging Offensive
Did anyone but me notice all the obscene plastic that's being used to package the Windows Vista boxes? That's a lot of oil consumption for something that will end up in the trash in a couple months. Thank you, Microsoft! I'm glad I use Ubuntu, which I can either download or get in recycled cardboard envelopes.

In fairness Vista is big on recycling, with bits of everything from dos to xp thrown in. Kind of a gumbo.

Hehe yeah democrates, but that kind of recycling doesn't really end up helping the environment much.
Yes I've seen the boxes (on TV no less :S ).. but if we're to talk about how much Microsoft cares about the environment we might as well start with how *bloated* Vista is and how many older PCs could end up thrown away somewhere unsafe because they couldn't run it.

Never mind that thanks to microsoft new PCs almost always consumed more power than the previous generation. Really great for global warming...

Well, in terms of operating system draining more by default, yes. Otherwise the power consumption is going down I believe. Latest CPUs while going up with performances seem to be going down with consumption, probably due to them being made on less and less nanometers (65 nm currently, soon 45nm) and I noticed that the watts seem to follow nanometers quite closely, roughly one watt per nanometer, though there might not be a direct relation this seems to be a convenient coincidence..
But I'm going off topic now.. For sure, Vista isn't a good way to effectively use this power efficient technology, as it'll likely still keep it at its peaks more often than it should.
