Open Source Based Search Engine
Hi All,
We are very delighted to be part of libervis community which supports Open Source projects. We run search engine Objects Search which is based on open source Nutch and we need your support to get feedback and help to grow so we can offer unbiased search engine.
Objects Search explains its search results.
Each matching page in the results of Objects Search has the following links:
* (cached) - displays the version of the page that Objects Search downloaded.
* (explain) - displays an explanation of how this page scored.
* (anchors) - shows the list of incoming anchors indexed for this page.
* (plain text) - displays the plain text version of the page that Objects Search downloaded.
Your feedback and support will help us.
Our Search Engine : http://www.ObjectsSearch.com
Thanks,
Asim

It's nice to see you using nutch :-)
How libre/open is the rest of the engine? Such as the search algorithm?
BTW, as for usability it'd be nice when one searches sites for e.g. "nasa" and then you clicked "images" that it would look for images with "nasa" instead of giving a blank quiery box.

Hi dylunio,
Thanks for your response and we will work on images and feedback like this will help us improve.
We use search algorithm from Nutch and have explain link for page score.
Thanks.

Hello and welcome Asim.
It's nice to see a second Free Software powered search engine in the game. :-) Maybe you could colaborate with Mozdex.com, or maybe you already do?
At this point I'd say that ObjectSearch is more complete or has more features (like that image, video and audio search for example, which seems great).

So there's no additional "inhouse" or any proprietary code? Also, do you use proprietary Java environment by Sun or the free GCJ implementation? I'm just wondering..
As for suggestions.. this is probably subjective, but maybe you could use some CSS adjustments to the design of your pages, something to make them look even smoother and friendlier as well as more "modern". :-)
I think only the change of your font would already help alot..
Cheers and thanks for joining!
Daniel

We modified some code to meet our needs but the search algorithm is just copied from nutch. We currently use proprietary Java environment by sun but things may change as we have more stable search engine.

Yes, we need improvements in page design but i am not a good web page designer but will work on that.
Glad to be part of this community.

I could be of some help there. I'm not a pro, but I have some experience with CSS and web design (I designed this site for example). However, I can't offer much right now as I'm rather busy and am already helping another project with that, but some time later maybe. All I'd need is your design/theme pages and CSS to modify.
Maybe someone else here can lay a hand as well..
Cheers
Daniel
Thanks for your offer and it will be great if we get some help.We don't have any CSS to modify not much time spend on design.
Thanks
Asim
