Podcasts idea revived

Podcasts idea revived

I today stumbled on a remix of the song that says "We don't need no education" and my first reaction to that song usually is "heck, the message is bad, we should all be educated". But today for some reason I specially noticed that part where they sing "we don't need no thought control". Then I thought, this song is actually a protest against top down conditioning, AKA brainwashing - I can go with that.

And, the funny processes in my brain went from there to imagining what now formed into an idea of a show, a podcast about Free Culture that would play music for various themes that are being presented. The way I imagined it, this podcast would be rich with music and sound clips and would have a rather bold style (perhaps sometimes controversial) with bits of humor and silliness sprayed over it to add some additional flavor.

I remembered we had a podcast idea long ago (actually, almost 1.5 years), but today we have the resources we didn't have before, notably a VPS server for easy distribution via either bittorrent or directly and on my side a fairly cheap ADSL connection which makes it, finally, so much easier to upload podcasts and download materials that I may need for it.

All this said (and this was supposed to be a bigger rant but I just cut it as it's offtopic), this idea if decided to go "green" is just something to put in the "pipeline". We still have quite a few things to do (a couple of new sites, Nuxified redesign, possible Nuxified Gaming Tournament for August etc.) Still I think it's thinking about this, considering that the web is more and more about sending sound and video messages in addition to textual. A picture is, after all, worth a thousand words (moving pictures multiplies this) and a sound can be worth as much too (just think of the emotional expressions contained in a voice that couldn't be put in a text) and the bandwidth today allows us to use this medium, so we probably should expand to it.

Cheers

This would be interesting,

This would be interesting, even more so maybe if we managed to use voIP via e.g. ekiga and record a conversation/debate between us for a part of the podcast.

Oh, and the song you mention was originally by Pink Floyd on their "The Wall" album and film, I think the song's name is "Another Brick in the Wall part 2" (though it has been recently covered by somebody else). The music video and the part of the film for the song is worth a watch. If you get a chance watch the film, though it is a bit weird (its a mix of growing insanity, mad dictatorial fascism and autobiography).

Excellent, you could cover

Excellent, you could cover command line v gui with "textual healing" (sorry Marvyn) in the background.

Man doesn't that line "All

Man doesn't that line "All in all you're just another brick in the wall" make you want to just scream: "No, I'm NOT a yet another fscking brick in that freaking wall!"?

Makes you think. We're conditioned from day one of our lives. And even today, even those of us who try to break out as much as they can, we find ourselves put back into that wall on and on again and again and then trying to break out. I doubt we're even being aware of all the times when we're just following our programming, so to speak, rather than "growing beyond our original programming" as Data of Enterprise would say.

We need some of that rebellious energy into this podcast. Eye

And yes.. voIP sounds like a good idea. I think Ekiga requires registration, but I'll check it out later.

Heh it's funny how my mind

Heh it's funny how my mind starts brewing with ideas when I actually get to bed and shut the computer off and need to get sleep because I have get up in 3.5 hours or so.. Darn it!

Well.. anyway, I was thinking, among other things, about this podcast and I wish it to be soon. It'd be quite an exciting experiment. One idea that just popped up to me is that, for the first podcast, we should gather "hello" or "shout out" recordings from all active Libervis Network members and put them in our show as "voices of our community". That'd be so cool and all you'd have to do is record yourself with a very short introductory message with your name or nick and send it off to me. Smiling

Then we can make this sort of a tradition. In addition to possible live interviews we could ask a a certain question at the end of a podcast and encourage listeners to send recorded answers to be included in the next podcast, which is also a good way to get content for it. Smiling

I've now installed audacity

I've now installed audacity (as jokosher doesn't 'just work') and have been playing about with it. I should be sending you a recording shortly.

I successfully tried mumble

I successfully tried mumble last night talking to guys from Cluenet.org and I think this would be a great way to do live interviews (with voice). There can be multiple of people on a given server and all can talk to each other live at the same time. Just need to figure out how to record the output, but that shouldn't hard, and we're set on that front.

Except that we need a server, but either we will host one on Libervis.net or perhaps Cluenet will provide their own. It's not always full. Smiling

Cheers
