"Try before you buy" web hosting

"Try before you buy" web hosting

Looking over WordPress.com products and thinking how would our very own potential WP powered blog site compete with their for-pay domain name transfer/registering for existing WP blogs I've came up with this idea, just an idea.

Enter "try before you buy" web hosting. This is something I could use for myself right now actually, to test WP in root directory under a new domain name! Sounds like the need for it could indeed happen.

Basically, when someone contemplates starting their own new site, but are not yet sure how would it go or what would they use for it, they can get full web hosting for a *free* trial period when they can put anything on their site (along with the domain name), test it out and if they wish to keep going pay for hosting or if not simply quit and be terminated when the trial period expires.

Not sure how would it work for domain names though, because I am not sure it is possible to register a new domain name for only a month or so (trial period). Maybe we could have a few test domain names registered and just hand them over to trial users. When they decide to pay to go full, they choose a full domain name to use.

Right now I'm probably not fit for investing into this kind of business (soon might be though), but it would basically (for a start at least) entail getting a reseller package from a trusted web hosting company (and I have one), and selling "try before you buy" hosting that way.

But I just wanted to share the idea. If anyone has heard of anyone doing something like this feel free to post.

Thanks

The solution is to give the

The solution is to give the possibility for an own domain name only after the trial period. During the trial, the website gets a subdomain.

Yeah, subdomain would be the

Yeah, subdomain would be the best if there are a lot of testers, but at the beginning we could have a few full domain names for trials because that makes tests more genuine (for example, WPMU and similar software may not work well with only subdomains).

Oh I see:

Oh I see: trybeforeyoubuy01.com .. trybeforeyoubuy99.com . Makes sense.

Yep, that's exactly it,

Yep, that's exactly it, though I wouldn't go for whole 99 domain names. Laughing out loud
