We have an angry spammer

 tbuitenh |  |

What do you do when your spam gets deleted? You submit even bigger amounts, so it will take more work to clean it up.

Today we got spambombed with hundreds of porn-linking posts. I've cleaned up the mess, but who knows how soon it will be back.

I suggest we disable anonymous posting, at least in the forums.

Anonymous posting wont be disabled. That would be admitting defeat and anonymous posting did quite a bit of good for us.

That guy will be nuked.

I don't know if anonymous posting has done much good for us. In any case I'm not going to clean up the mess this spammer makes another time, and I don't believe IP bans help.

 libervisco | I am sorry for this, but | Sun, 2007-04-01 14:59

I am sorry for this, but here I'll tell you how I feel about this, and this is the sort of thing I've been feeling for quite a while now (yes, stupid spammers aren't the only ones getting my goat in this way). It is primitivism vs. actually being of some worth and the frustration of having to even deal with primitivism at all.

These spammers are primitive souls with primitive intentions and primitive motivations. They come here to ruin the site, we block them with the latest best spam filtering modules (it really worked well) and then some of them go a step further and post in a way that makes their posts completely genuine looking hence undetectable to spam filters (and in fact impossible to filter automatically), sometimes even without a link at all, meaning that they are apparently *deliberately* out to make a mess here.

You think that spammer, whoever he is, is angrier about this than me?? Guess again. I am now supposed to back down and disable anonymous posting, which is likely exactly one of the things they want, and hence miss out on the number of useful anonymous posts we tend to get when we have a new article, not to mention quite a few anonymous posts we get on forums too giving us a chance to encourage those posters to register.

And now one pitiful primitive minded spammer is supposed to make me change that?

I am hardly finding words to describe how angry I feel right now.

And sure, I am not asking you to clean up the mess. Thank you for cleaning it the times that you did. I'll try blocking IPs and cleaning it myself, but disabling functionality is the last resort.

And those primitive fscktards can go eat the radioactive dust.
