你好!
In this screenshot, I'm writing chinese using scim. Note the tiny window to the lower right.
I made the xfce panel and iconbox 75% transparent, so they are always visible when I want to see them, and invisible when I decide not to see them . The cool shadows came as a side-effect. It seems a bit buggy, and it seems my changes to the X configuration made my favourite editor NEdit stop working. If that's the only problem, I'll just switch to vi.
Now, I guess you want to know how to do this! You need a recent XOrg (6.8.0 or later I'm told, I believe I have 6.8.2). Add/change this to your xorg.conf:

Section "Extensions"
   Option "Composite" "Enable"
   Option "RENDER" "Enable"
EndSection

Make sure xfwm is compiled with transparency support, for example by changing this line in the arch PKGBUILD:

./configure --prefix=/opt/xfce4 --enable-compositor

Transparency is configured in .config/xfce4/transparency

panel=75
iconbox=75

Oh, and to enable scim after installing it, add this to .config/xfce4/xinitrc before the part that starts the session manager:

export XMODIFIERS=@im=SCIM
export GTK_IM_MODULE="scim"
export QT_IM_MODULE="scim"
scim -f socket -c socket -d

Don't use "focus follows mouse" in combination with scim. Chances are your mouse will go trough another window before you reach the scim window to change the language for that window...

That's all!

After setting up archlinux, I got into the mood to make it look beautiful. Note the quote in the terminal

I found this file manager by coincedence, while searching for some information about doodle (a program similiar to locate that also looks at file metadata (ID3 tags, EXIF...)). Evidence is supposed to provide an interface to doodle, but where that interface is hidden is not clear to me yet.
This file manager is a bit schizofrenic: it has three different interfaces! (all shown in screenshot).

Installing it was a huge pain in the ***. The server that was supposed to have the .debs was empty, and I couldn't get an rpm installed with alien to work properly. So... I compiled it myself. The configure script did not check for all necessary libraries. Annoying. Anyway, I hunted down all dependencies and got it running! (Spoiled debian user, I know...)
On SuSE it should be much easier.

The program "feels" a bit unstable, not deserving a version number as high as 0.9.8, but is usable. Just don't use tree view if you want to be able to get back to one of the other two views.

I wonder what to think of this error message:
Quote:

*** ECORE ERROR: Ecore Magic Check Failed!!!
*** IN FUNCTION: ecore_idle_enterer_del()
 Input handle is wrong type
   Expected: f7b515f2 - Ecore_Idle_Enterer (Idler Enterer)

*** NAUGHTY PROGRAMMER!!!
*** SPANK SPANK SPANK!!!
*** Now go fix your code. Tut tut tut!

From the website http://evidence.sourceforge.net/ :
Quote:

"Miss Lucas?", he asked with a voice like Whiskey.
"The same.", I said, the evening's two packs registering in my voice. "Enchant", I added drily, mostly in an attempt to clear my throat.
"Find me a file-manager that doesn't suck.", he said unceromoneously.
I grunted. "That'll cost ya.", I told him between puffs. "They don't make the likes of those anymore."

I'm sure one day there will be a file manager that does not suck, and it will be called evidence... But it's far from there now. Keep up the good work! I have to say this is a very ambitious project. I will certainly keep watching it.
