I once used to use DAP (download acceletor plus) when i was "stuck" on windozes. Do you know about any good download manager for gnu/linux that uses the similar download acceleration technology (downloading in pieces with multiple simultaneous connections and then putting together)?

Thanks
Daniel

Re: Download accelerator software for linux?

Hi Daniel,

Unfortunately I don't know any of these programs for Linux (I also used DAP before Firefox appeared), I am satisfied with Firefox download manager. It's been a long time since I last had a problem downloading a file. I usually get to download everything fine. Anyway, there is wget which seems to be a very nice software. Text-based, I should say. However, I am not sure if it works when the link is from Javascript.

Thank you,
Andre

looky here:

http://linux.tucows.com/downloadmanagers_default.html

I remember using ProzGUI in an ancient past.

I don't use a download accelerator anymore, because I have ADSL now. On dialup a download accelerator saves money, with ADSL or cable it is antisocial to use one.

Try SKDownloader. It is java based with a nice GUI and uses multiple connections to download file in parts.

I have used orbit downloader, but I'm not sure if it works with Linux.
