Further transformation of Libervis.com into a news portal is possible

As forums continue to be used only by the core Libervis community rather than a larger number of users and as the frequency of publishing featured news increased, it is now quite possible that Libervis.com may, in the near future, be further transformed into a news portal on issues relating to freedom in a digital world and ongoing digital revolution. Unlike LXer.com it would not be aggregating news only regarding GNU/Linux and Free Software, but also Free Culture, human rights on the internet and digital revolution at large. The improved Libervis.com news section would have categories, prominent RSS feeds and possibly some other "widgets".

Also, the new Libervis News section would more often feature short news commentary stories on recent and ongoing events as content that would originate here and hence bring more attention to this site. While these may not often be real news stories, they may be commentaries of interest which, if done well and in a recognizable style, create a bit of a following for Libervis.com (users anticipating more of such commentary). These news commentary stories are not essays as published in the essays section. They don't have to be long and elaborate full scale articles, but rather short pieces with specific "to-the-point" message.

At the beginning, I would probably be the main editor behind this with help of anyone in the current core Libervis community if anyone wishes to come onboard. As we increase the frequency of publishing news and commentary stories we may be in a position to recruit new volonteers who would be honored to be on the editors team. In the future some editors may even be payed by the parent company that is in the planning stages (Libervis Labs).

This post is just an announcement of potential future direction of Libervis.com. The whole idea described may not be developed immediately.

Comments, questions and suggestions are always welcome.

Thank you
Danijel

I always say "don't talk about the news, be the news"...
I think the best future direction for libervis.com is to become the website of the co-op.

True. Maybe we can do both

True.

Maybe we can do both though? There needs to be some substance of interest on Libervis.com. At this very point I think the biggest value bearers for this site are actually those featured news, occassional essay and these co-op discussions in forums, although they seem more internal..

When you say it should become the website of the co-op do you mean it would be it's homepage featuring information about our new projects, their progress, press releases, announcements and such?

That would pretty much make it our, sort of corporate homepage.. so is there a place for discussions and news on such a site? Hmm I suppose there is.. It would be quite unique actually..

Watching trends and filling

Watching trends and filling needs spotted in those trends is our business. It is vital that we talk about the news and talk about it with as many people as possible.

Nuxified.org was created because of someone's complaints. Let the people come and complain to us Smiling .

I suppose this topic and the

I suppose this topic and the implication made in its title can be scrapped. Featured news is good and we can keep putting them in to emphasize certain stories and events as important to our cause which Libervis.com readers can then easily recognize them as such. Some commentary here and there couldn't hurt too.

So we'll pretty much keep Libervis.com what it is, a small, but potentially (at least to some individuals) significant platform for discussion and cooperation on Free Culture issues. Forums already are and will continue to be used for both discussion and cooperative projects and undertakings by some of which we might even get known at some point. Eye
