Hey guys,

Just found this forum through sitepoint.com
I'm kind of a hack coder but I try to use opensource stuff whenever I can. Free is always nice Smiling

I live in Orlando, FL and currently work in DSL support.

I also run a number of different websites on the side.

Thanks for providing such a great site...

Howdy! :-)

Welcome to libervis!

Free is indeed always nice, but there is something more beautiful and nicer in the freedom. And that's what open source is all about, not only free of cost!

Thank you for joining.

Daniel :-)

Re: Howdy Folks!

Freedom from control brought upon them by the proprietary software company's by restricting the natural sharing and modifying the software that they payed for.

If you look at it from a different perspective than you do now, proprietary software is never really yours, even after you payed a "fortune" for it you are not free to do with it whatever you need. Don't you call it a control.

I hope that cleares my point.

Daniel :-)

I call this getting what I paid for.... When I buy software I know that someone pured millions of dollars into it and thousands of hours to time. I looked at their product and thought... "THATS GREAT SOFTWARE" and I paid up. I know the restrictions when I bought it.

I'm not sure whats so natural about sharing and modifying software that I have not legal or moral right to?

What I'm trying to say is... I didn't pay for the source code, I paid for the tool. Its your option to buy it one way or the other. The companies aren't evil, just smart.

Re: Howdy Folks!

Well, first and foremost, welcome!

Well, I believe OSS to be free, people to be nice and helpful.

I have nothing against paid-for software however, I hate aggressive marketing, constant nagging to upgrade and spend more money, and poor software (big hint at Microsoft)

:-D

Whatever, hope you enjoy your time here!
