What do you think about the current appereance, functionality and navigability of this site? What would you change? Any sugestions to make this site look and be better in your eyes?

I invite you to make suggestions freely, any??

You are the ones that are gonna power this site in the future, truly, it therefore has to be what you need, of course, regarding open source and free software community and you as a part or potential part of it. Eye

Thank you!
Daniel

Re: I invite your suggestions!

Here freak, i gave your ideas a thought and revamped the forums 'a bit'. You can see the changes.

When i think about this site and it's forums which should be the core of libervis.com i think of it as a node or a crossroad (as it says in the title on top). Why am i telling this. Becase when i look at sitepoint or that domains forum i can see how focused they are on a certain area. In the case of libervis.com we can't say we are a webmasters forum, domain name discussion board nor a developers forum. Instead, we are a 'node' of the whole open source community focusing on exactly that role. Therefore, we have a bit of everything inside. Why would that have a potential. Because people could likely love the idea of having one central community that will lead the way to all the more focusing community's around which is at the same time a good oss information resource and a place to ask any oss related question.

That seems as an interesting and right point of view at libervis.com's 'mission'. I'll be writing a full FAQ soon explaining EVERYTHING that needs to be explained about libervis.com.
Thanks for reading my bubbleing.
By the way.. how do you feel about the forums now?
Thank you,
Daniel

Re: I invite your suggestions!

Well, I have only just came in but will give my first impressions...

When did xoops became this developed? If I recall correctly, they were just erm, small fries not too long ago. Man, I gotta install xoops one of these days...

However, I am biased to how good the built in forum is. Still will need some time for me to explore and to pit it against opensourced giant: phpBB...

Noticed that quick reply is absent, should hack that...

As for the others, I'll just surf around and come back when I know more...

Re: I invite your suggestions!

Ok, been around more and do have some suggestions about the forums.

You definitely should start a free-for-all forum where anything goes. Almost any other forum has that.

Since the site is new, an introduction forum might also be nice.

The operating system section should be cut down for the time being till more mebers justify its existance, and even then, I do not think that it is good to just focus on operating systems, might do good to change that to open sourced web-apps, utilities etc.

Also, I believe there should be an re-arrangement of the forums. Important forums should be placed at the top (i.e. The Movement) Libervis.com support should be placed at the bottom.

A new misc. forums should be created to showcase maybe a general chat forums, intro etc., as mentioned above. Also, forums like computer help place, plain tech-talk about new gizmos etc, should be there. Maybe a marketplace forum...

I believe it will be good to check out biggies like webhostingtalk.com, sitepointforums.com, namepros.com etc. for some ideas.

Whatever, and good luck...

Re: I invite your suggestions!

Hello freak! I am very glad you joined.

Yes, the xoops is a powerful system indeed, this site is powered by the latest version 2.0.7. and has everything one community portal system should have. Some lacks are search engine friendly URL's and like you said quick reply on forums, but the short urls hack is on the way and i will search for hacks for quick reply.

I am welcoming your suggestions with warm heart, those are indeed very good ones and i'll be considering their implementation very soon. That's why i give you as well as anybody to make suggestions, in the end it will make this forum the best open source place in the world..or.. i hope so. Eye
Two and more people's ideas are always better than ones. Smiling

Thank you very much!
PS: As i already said on sitepoint forums, early members are on good way of becoming moderators, if you continue giving such a good sugestions and participate, your doors are wide open, seriously. Eye
Daniel

Re: I invite your suggestions!

OK.. now i searched for the quick reply hack and it seems like there is no viable option for that yet. Actualy, there is a newbb forum version 2 beta 2 which seems to have more features than phpbb and is faster, but it is still buggy so i wont be implementing it here just yet. To code it myself (quick reply) is unfortunately not a good idea since i am not a programmer, i may carefuly edit a CSS and html files for the sites theme or php files with the instructions, but to code something myself is not an option..at least not yet.

NewBB 2 should be out soon i hope, and when it does i'll be upgrading to it in no time. It has more than just an advanced quick reply feature. It is actualy comparable to vbulletin. The stability of this site is of great importance to me so i wont be implementing beta versions of anything nor some rather un-sure, probably un-stable hacks.

Thank you for understanding.
Daniel

Well, it is some improvement...

We'll have to wait till people come in before anything else can be said I believe.

I believe the next step after the launch would be to submit it to search engines, dmoz etc.

Good luck...

Re: I invite your suggestions!

Thank you Yihfeng! Eye

Of course, everyone will be able to make suggestions, this is meant to be community builded by community. Community, that is you people are what matters the most.

After site is fully launched i'll do more than just submiting it to directory's and search engines (googlebot already visited this site by the way Smiling). Whole SEO would be underway..

By the way, science3.net looks great Eye
