I don't think this could

I don't think this could really work for nexuiz. In-game ads would have to fit into the map, and most maps are user-created. Most maps could host ads, of course, but will they ?

/me imagines an ad for water-proof flags under water on a CTF map.

Or RedBull on low gravity maps, cause, "RedBull gives you wings". Laughing out loud

Such a ridiculous ad, but I guess if it'd pay game devs it's alright, and RedBull is proprietary software agnostic. Smiling

Well, it’s amazing. The miracle has been done. Well done.

Hat’s off. Well done, as we know that “Hard work always pays off”, after a long struggle with sincere efforts it’s done.

One thing that a lot of people have missed in this recent economic down turn is the fact that in-game money for all of the massive mutliplayer online role playing games has not been effected. I guess it just shows how strong and stable the computer game industry really is.

I would rather see well

I would rather see well placed ads (billboards, for example) than the system where to get functionality out of the game you have to star purchasing game currency with real currency. I don't mind having them sell bonuses like they do in Guild Wars or the ads at the top of the screen in Bnet. Even one along the bottom under the interface in StarCraft or Diablo wouldn't bother me.

Yes, same here. You bring up

Yes, same here. You bring up a good point about buying game currency. That sort of stuff has become like a new gambling sort of business. Just look at Entropia Online. To do anything interesting you need to buy in-game currency, but spending them on anything wont necessarily guarantee that you can earn enough to recoup the costs so most likely you'll end up close to square one. I guess only people who are willing to throw some serious dough into the game are gonna stick around. The rest of the mere mortals will probably just give up.

But in-game or in-world ads could partially solve that. Instead of requiring in-game currency purchases, maybe one could earn in-game currencies by doing things in areas which have ads in them. The more time you spend in such areas, the more those ads will cost (increased audience) and the more you can derive as a percentage from it. So ads could become the sole source of value behind in-game currency, rather than real currency.

Re: In-Game ads

it would detract from it's level of realism.
