After being disappointed with the interview attempt with Simon Phipps of Sun Microsystems we've pretty much fell dead on the whole cooperative interviews thing.

But the List of potential interviewees is still there and still holding some interesting names.

I am proposing another name and also proposing to get back to the interviewing business. All we need to do is pick a guy, ask for an interview, suggest some questions and compile a list on forums and then do an email interview based on those questions.

I'd propose an interview with Tony Mobily, the founder of the Free Software Magazine which I've been reading a lot tonight (quite a few interesting articles caught my attention). We can ask him the usual (and always interesting) questions about how he started with Free Software, about his stance on modern issues such as GPLv3 and the MS-Novell deal as well as questions specific to the FSM, how it started, how is it being funded currently (since there was some crisis with that a few months ago), are they selling much subscriptions and what is the future direction.

After we finish with him, I propose we move on with Jimmy Wales and ask him about his Wikia.com business. Eye

What do you think?

I'm fine with this. Lets

I'm fine with this. Lets remember this though: compile at least 10 questions before they agree to an interview so that we can send off the questions straight away while the interview is still fresh in their minds (this was the problem we had with the FSFE [non-]interview).

So let us get questions down for Tony Mobily now, maybe you could 'unfuzz' the ideas in your post to start us off?

Ok here is a quick draft

Ok here is a quick draft list of questions..

- What brought you to Free Software and GNU/Linux?

- What do you think about the GPLv3 process and the changes introduced to the license, in light of recent controversy mostly led by Linus Torvalds?

- What is your opinion about the MS-Novell deal? Are there any potential benefits of the deal for the GNU/Linux community and which would those be?

- What led you to start the Free Software Magazine?

- Why didn't you call it an Open Source Magazine, was it an explicit decision to go with the "Free Software" term?

- Do you think including non-free drivers in Ubuntu Feisty is a good idea and why?

- There was some funding crisis recently on FSM, how are you doing recently in that aspect? Is it mostly advertising or do you also sell a good number of actual magazine subscriptions?

- Did you receive any feedback or help from high profile figures of the FOSS world in regard to the FSM (like Linus Torvalds, Bruce Perens, Eric Raymond, RMS etc.)?

- What are the main goals and the mission of FSM?

- Are there any specific plans for the future FSM related projects that you'd like to share today?

- What is your favorite piece of Free Software?

Feel free to suggest new questions or changes to existing ones. I didn't number the questions since the actual order may still change.

So there's something to start with. Smiling

Thanks

Some of those questions are

Some of those questions are not really related to FSM, I'm not sure if that is good or bad. It depends on the kind of answers we will get, I suppose.

Here are my questions:

Did you publish anything (article, magazine, book, blog, whatever) before FSM? What are the differences (in work/publishing method) with FSM?

How do you make others write for FSM? Are they paid?

Good questions. Those not

Good questions.

Those not entirely related to FSM are more meant to make an introduction to him and his personal stance on these Free Software issues. There is at least a connection between that and FSM since it's a "Free Software" magazine.

Thanks
