FORUM RULES:

1. - No Spamming, blatant self promotion or any kind of "excesive" advertising.

Spamming is the act of sending unsolicited electronic messages in bulk. What is to be considered as spam on libervis.com is basically what is being considered as spam anywhere else on the web, messages posted with no apparent relevancy to the topics of this site posted mainly in order to promote some other site or product. Spammers are usually not contributing members of the community and are therefore easy to recognize. Thus my message to "spammers" here is: don't bother. All spam will be deleted or locked.

Obvious spammer accounts will be deleted without warning!

Blatant self promotion is basically spam. Self promotion is ONLY allowed in special forums where it is stated that such promotion is allowed under the terms specified such as our "free software web" forum where you can promote your only FOSS related websites.

You are allowed to put a link or few to your websites, but you are not allowed to put images in your signature (except smileys). Also, your signatures should not be more than 4 lines long.

For the "accidental" (didn't read the rules) breach of this rule section, we'll tolerate one thread, but all additional threads or posts that breach this rule will be deleted or locked.

2. - No cross posting or double posting

Cross posting or posting the same topic or post in more than one forum or threads is not allowed. Please decide on the most appropriate place for your post and post it only there. If you however make a mistake and post in the wrong place, you may let as know by sending a PM (personal message) to the administrator or the moderators requesting them to move the thread to the more appropriate category and forum.

If you accidentally make a double post it will of course be tolerated. The double post will be removed leaving the original one.

3. - No flaming, rudeness and talk of hatry

We'd like to keep this place in as much as positive spirit as possible. And while we encourage hot debates and discussions we do not allow flaming on each other and fighting over the forums. If you must fight with another member, do it in private through our personal messaging system (PMs). If we see a public fight or flaming or any kind of rude posts we may delete it and warn the user. However, i encourage you to be tolerant of other's views and try to get along without a fight. Better concentrate on a topic you agree on.

4. - No porn and alike posts, threads and images

Posting threads and posts regarding the pornography and alike content is not allowed. And we especially forbid posting any kinds of porn images and images that reveal certain parts of the body.
The public display of affection toward a certain person is also not allowed. Please, do it via PM system. This is definitely not a kind of a forum for that and it should be clear even if we didn't included this in our rules, but here, we did, just in case someone enters to disrupt the good spirit and decency.

5.- No illegal activities such as warez talk and exchanges, planning unauthorized copying, discussing creations of computer viruses etc.

Any kind of illegal activity is not allowed. This includes posts and threads that are related to warez, hacking (in negative and illegal manner), "piracy" and alike. Free software in this forum in no way refers to the software copied without authorization ("pirated") and warez, cracks and other ways of making proprietary software free to you. The term free software relates to the software published under licenses (such as GPL, LGPL, BSD etc) that allow free usage, copying, redistribution and modifying the source code and not to cracked proprietary programs.

6. - Try to keep the site layout unobstructive when posting content other than text

Posting images with too big width may in turn considerably increase the width of the page itself making it less readable. In order to avoid that please post images of width not greater than 600 pixels. Alternatively you can just link to the image.

In addition, when posting links that are very long and could also result in disrupting the layout of the page, please make it a link with anchor text instead.

For example something like:

link

would look better than just:

http://www.libervis.com/newbb+viewtopic.topic_id+29+forum+29.htm

To make a proper link use the HTML "a" tag like this:

<a href="http://www.yourlink.com/linkedpages">link title</a>

7. Please review your posts and comments for any errors before submitting them in order to make them easier and more comfortable to read.
This is not a strict rule and so it wont be enforced as such, but it is a guideline that you should strive to follow.

Keeping the rules:

If you are not sure if the activity you're going to undertake on our forums is in contradiction with the rules or not, feel free to PM the administrator about what you want to do and we will let you know if we will allow it or not. This way you'll be sure you're not breaking the rules.

Reading the rules before you do anything and trying to respect them is probably the best way to keep them. If you don't understand certain rule or rules, feel free to PM the admin and ask about it.

Some activity's that are not allowed may be allowed on through the private personal messaging system (PM). This includes activity's such as fighting and resolving differences between two people and/or expressing affections between two people.

Administrator holds the right to changing the rules so it would be a good idea to check on them once in a while. However, we will announce important changes if they occur.

Enforcement:

We will enforce the rules by removing the offensive content and warning the user for which we believe has broken any of the above rules. For the harder offenses such as posting warez and porn related content we will warn only twice, the second one being very strict. If the user breaks the same rule again, we will delete his/her account.

For all other rule breaking we will give users only three warnings, third being the most strict one and following a removal of the users account and possible IP bans.

Every offensive content will be removed according to the rules.

Please, keep it cool and clean in order to have a positive community here.

ADDITIONAL POLICIES:

Sometimes it may be neccesery to lock a thread even if noone involved didn't break any rules. This will be done only in cases where the thread has clearly lost it's purpose. Such threads are however not to be deleted as they still might contain some useful content, just locked so that the further topic degradation is prevented.

If the thread has been started in a wrong forum (not exactly covering that topic) and there is a better place for it, the thread will be moved there. In other cases the threads may be moved if the organization and order of forums are being changed. You will however be notified about such changes.

The rules specified above are valid for all sections of libervis.com and not only for forums (wiki, blogs, article comments etc.).

Thank you

Re: Libervis.com forums rules!

I'm seriously considering adding an additional rule here, or more like a "convention" meant to keep the site usability and accessibility in check.

Every now and then someone posts an image to a forum thread of which width is greater than the maximum width of the actual forums, which ends up in squeezing the left menu and prolonging the window width. Then you have to use the bottom horizontal scroll bar to read other posts in the thread. That can be annoying as well as ugly.

So the rule would be generalized to something like "try to keep the site layout unobstructive when posting content other than text" specifying a limit to the width of the images to some 600 pixels which is enough not to obstruct the layout.

If you agree I'll revise the rules to add it. If you have additional suggestions to rules revisions feel free to say.

Thanks
Daniel

Re: Libervis.com forums rules!

The other idea would be to dress links properly (mmh, I wonder how I would undress a link... Sticking out tongue ).

I think that when one attaches GIFs, JPEGs or PNGs the images are automatically inbedded, no?

If the area around my avatar is dark gray chances are you are using MS Internet Explorer, one of the few browsers that do not have full PNG-24 support. Considered trying [url=http://bro

Re: Libervis.com forums rules!

You can post off-topic things in the free people's lounge. However, please don't post the same off-topic message twice, it will make me delete them both ;-) .
I suggest we adopt duplicate off-topic messages as a sign of spam in the forum rules.

Thank you,

Taco

Re: Libervis.com forums rules!

Yes.. crossposting is forbidden..

Anyway, I'll be adding these "ammedments" to the rules soon. Maybe I make a separate sitewide rules page with some basic guidelines for other major sections of the site in addition to forum rules.

Re: Libervis.com forums rules!

Oh, you're right. I was in a bit of a hurry, my above post was in response to a spam, so I only looked at the spam part of the rules. (I moved a message to the trash, and completely deleted a duplicate of that same message).

Re: Libervis.com forums rules!

Split rule #1 into two parts:

no spamming -> accounts of spammers will be deleted without warning

no extreme self promotion, long signatures, etc -> one warning

Re: Libervis.com forums rules!

I've just added this to the rule #1:

Quote:

Obvious spammer accounts will be deleted without warning!

That's the basic point anyway. Due to the increase of spam and spammer accounts they will be deleted without warning. And those usually are very obvious.

Thanks
