As I've already mentioned in another thread, we have a sponsor for hosting Libervis.com. It is actually the same company we've been hosted with all along. They offered a special sponsorship deal that involves free 1 GB hosting space and 50 GB bandwidth. It's basically their best hosting package (diamond).

The company site is at http://www.shopcentar.hr though it is in croatian. I've suggested them to make an english version and they say it'll come in the future so yeah, if someone wants good quality hosting with great support I can vouch for, you'll probably be able to get it with them (no matter it's a croatian company, servers are actually in Texas :-D)

Anyway, done with plugging them. ;-)

So, we just got a resource boost. 1GB means I wont be worrying much about space issues for quite a while and 50 GB traffic is more than enough too while we already had all else we needed technically wise (databases, emails, subdomains, you name it).

However, that's not all. Lately, my stats show that Libervis.com resumed its growth faster than usual. It was stagnating pretty much till around the end of 2005 and beginning of 2006 (only slower growth), but since last week up to today I can report an average of more than 1000 visitors a day. People are reading our forums, blogs, articles etc..

The problem that remains though, if it is to be considered a "problem", is that we still don't have much activity on forums. There's still only barely a dozen of us posting and we're like exchanging shifts. Laughing Right now that's Taco (tbuitenh, as always), dylunio, a_thing and well siberianhamster posted recently too. Next couple of weeks and it may be a different five.

How do we get those lurkers (hundreds of them it seems) to post? What is wrong with these forums? Do they byte or is it something else? How can we make them more engaging? What kind of discussions we need to have? Do we need to change the forum organization?

Please make suggestions. Whatever you think is necessary to change the change can be done.

We're not the only politically/socially minded forum on the web (though we're unique in a special indescribable way ;-) ), but yet it seems we're not doing as good as some others.. Why is that?

Maybe, if someone has an idea, we could kickstart a sort of affiliate/refferal program of some kind, providing some incentive for people to post and invite others to post? What do you think?

Thank you for any suggestions you may have.

Daniel

Oh, so actually we already got stuck in jargon and people are flying trough too quickly because of it. That's too bad.

This "Introduction to Freedom" sounds like a good idea, and I think I know a few sufficiently curious but clueless people to proofread it Laughing .
It could be a short catchy easy to understand summary of the articles written until now. Then it will also show what we still need to write about :-) . And it also fits in nicely with the idea I have to rework the articles into some kind of book.

Well, I think we might have been that way from the beginning. Topics were almost always rather "intellectually charged" to invent a new term for it. :-)

And that ends up not so simple and therefore not so attractive to the average guy..

I'd say this is not inherently bad, but it has this consequence..

Cool. :-D

Sure we can try to do that, but I don't think it has to be strictly a summary of our previous articles. I think it would be enough for it to summarize certain basics about freedom that we who are more or less regular here have come to understand. We just need to rephraze those understandings in a way understandable to a larger number of people.

This is also best to write in a wiki. However there was a suggestion of changing our wiki software to something more powerful and featureful so we'd have to first see what's available, decide what to use and then try to convert existing content to it.. I'll open a new thread about that when I have something to show..

That would be cool. I'm not sure if we have enough articles yet to fit in a real book, but maybe a small one, like a booklet could come out of it. :-)

Cheers
Daniel

Or maybe it could grow as articles are written...
Right now it would be a really tiny booklet.

Well, after a few more years it could be quite a booklet. ;-) And then we can put it on a libervis livecd if we'd make that. :-)
