Eh I have just received a second email from Terri Molini from "Global Communications" asking to send those questions to them. I suppose Patrick relayed my interview request to some others in the company.

Anyway, it's good to see they're so open to talking with us now. Terri even said they're looking forward to working with us. Smiling

It almost seems like

It almost seems like everyone in Sun will get those questions on their screen at some point Laughing out loud . As for "looking forward to work/do business with", it's a standard phrase. Even the RIAA uses it, remember? But of course Sun means it in a good way.

Yeah looks like at least a few people at Sun will see it. It was forwarded to a third person now as well. Laughing out loud

I'm glad to see the ball is rolling again; now to hope it will not stop until we get answers.

Seems it got stuck with the PR person. I got a reply from Patrick now and he sent another reminder to the PR person to review the questions and answers..

Ah corporations. Sticking out tongue

Good news. After I've sent

Good news. After I've sent what might be a bit harsher email to Patrick about the interview, although I should have probably contacted PR directly myself, I've gotten a response from both Patrick and Terri from PR and Terri sent me the finished Q&A. Smiling

The question regarding the release of Java as Free Software is now redundant because it already happened. I guess we should still leave it in as the Patrick's response noted that it happened on May 8th 2007, but we should note that the interview was conducted earlier. That should be enough to explain the question in the first place I suppose.

Here is the interview: http://www.libervis.com/article/an_interview_with_patrick_finch_of_sun_microsystems

Note that this hasn't been published on the homepage yet and is to be considered a final draft, so if anyone has any suggestions about the introduction, the title of the interview, the order of questions or anything, please suggest now.

Thank you

Finally! Maybe the

Finally!

Maybe the introduction should be a little more clear about this being a collaborative view to which anyone on the libervis forums could submit questions.

Quote:

5.) How do you think doing open hardware compare to free software?

Should be: How do you think open hardware and free software compare?

Quote:

9.) Can you describe the impact that could your adoption of GPLv3 have on the Free Software world or even more broadly the software industry (considering some of the controversies regarding this new license)?

Should be: Can you describe the impact that your adoption of GPLv3 could have on the Free Software world or even more broadly the software industry (considering some of the controversies regarding this new license)?

And in the answer to that: "good think" should be "good thing"

The answer to 13 contains a line break in the middle of a sentence ("OpenOffice.org Conference (in lovely Barcelona)")

Quote:

14.) About Sun's involvelemnt with DRM. Is DReaM project still alive and what is it supposed to accomplish, what are Sun's plans with it?

Should be: About Sun's involvement with DRM. Is the DReaM project still alive and what is it supposed to accomplish, what are Sun's plans with it?

What are the ****** between 14 and 15 for? I know, but other readers will think Patrick wrote a bad word. Maybe put titles above the two sets of questions? For example: "Sun's relationship with Free Software" and "Technical questions".

Question 17 should have been the very first.

Quote:

We thank Patrick Finch and Sun for taking the time to answer our questions.

How about: We thank Patrick Finch and Sun for their time and for the enlightening answers.

Good suggestions. Some of

Good suggestions. Some of the things, like the "think" instead of "thing", I noticed myself, but forgot to fix. I agree with all suggestions. I'm just not sure if we should move the 17th question as a first one now.. I guess it wouldn't hurt.

I'll make some fixes immediately.

Thanks

Do make the 17th question

Do make the 17th question first. When you're interviewing someone who isn't very famous, it's normal to ask them who they are first, not as an "oh by the way" at the end.
