Slackware/Devian VS Redhat/Mandeake

After finally giving up on Slackware I have finally decided to make the move to redhat.

I have to say...WOW. I know how most seasoned linux users feel about this but I have to say that Redhat installed about 5 times quicker (considering the load) and with 100 times less problems.

Anyone else feel that some versions of linux are still keeping the door shut for users who want to make the change from windows to linux?

I am not sure, but then, it may very well be so.

However, i wouldn't hold that against them. Many will produce desktop friendly distro's and some may continue to develop "geek only" distros. That is giving users a choice. Both groups of users should be able to use linux that will suit their needs.

Exactly!
Distributions that try to be clicky-clicky easy are not usable for this geek here. I really hate seeing "this is an automatically generated file, please do not edit" in my configuration files.

Where can I put my sing? Smiling

I agree with PK. I think there should be distros like Mandrake, RedHat and Fedora for this newbies, but, please, don't touch our Debian, Slackware, Gentoo, Arch... Smiling
