ridiculous! it's not twisting the statistics, it's simply substituting them by different ones.

This "study" is obviously completely wrong and it certainly looks like it was done on purpose. How can BSA do something like this and get away with it?

Oh, yes, the largest hardware and software producers are members of BSA (Microsoft, IBM, HP, Adobe, Apple, Dell, Intel, Cisco, to name a few from the list on http://www.bsa.org). I would guess that BSA members hold most of the software patents.

A bit off topic maybe, but this is a quote from http://www.bsa.org/usa:

Quote:

Software piracy is not only a crime, but it can destroy computers and data.

Anyone heard about pirated software *destroying* a computer? :-)

Yes Smiling

In 1997, a well-known Chinese anti-virus proprietary software company named JiangMin, put a logical bomb in their software - if you are using a specific key maker, then boom all the data on your HD.

As that key maker is somewhat widely spread, this caused many people's work gone in a second. And in the end that company is demanded to remove this facility, but no real punishment has made to that company (no users are payed for their losses, just because they are using unauthorized key maker).

Well, proprietary non-pirated software can eat your data. It happend to me with the first edition of windows xp. It is why I use linux now and do not have windows xp installed on my system.
